Master’s Symposium on Advances in Data Mining, Machine Learning, and Computer Vision (MS-AMLV 2021)
This Masters Symposium is organized as an open forum for Computer Science M.Sci (or Ph.D.) students and their supervisors. Therefore, this Call for Papers is open. The topical focus of the Symposium is within the Data Science and Machine Learning landscape. In particular, it solicits contributions dealing with novel techniques, technologies, methodologies, based on the synergies in Data and Knowledge Mining, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Augmented Reality.
The Symposium is seen as a venue giving a good chance for young researchers and practitioners, both from academia and industry, to present and receive feedback on their M.Sci or Ph.D. projects at an early stage. Therefore, short papers presenting master thesis proposals are solicited by the event as its major submission type. The event is also open to considering industrial experience reports, surveys, or review papers. Our vision of this Masters Symposium is to bring together students and supervisors to provide an expert environment for the presentation of ideas and early results of master projects or other research aiming at receiving an M.Sci or Ph.D. degree.
Young researchers, who will join us to take part in discussions and/or present their papers, will be offered an opportunity to exchange and discuss their research ideas with their peers, supervisors, and senior scientists working in the fields that are within the scope of the Symposium.
We solicit submissions of original work, not previously published, or submitted for publication elsewhere, that address one or more of the following broad topics:
- Mining valuable information and knowledge from data of different modalities: text, image, audio, video, sensor output, etc.
- Using machine learning approaches and developing related techniques for solving problems in classification, categorization, clustering, pattern recognition in (mined or raw) data.
- Exploring synergetic or hybrid approaches in solving computer vision and augmented reality problems
We solicit the presentations of theoretical, experimental, and technological aspects of M.Sci. (or Ph.D.) research and development projects (further abbreviated as M.Sci. projects).

The language of the Symposium is English. Submissions in any other language will be rejected without a review. Presentations in any other language are also not accepted. We solicit short papers that present and justify M.Sci or Ph.D. projects or report the early results of these projects in addition to the presentation of the project. The presentations of early results are encouraged as this helps prove the validity of the project and chosen approach. Topically, a submission should fit into the Symposium scope outlined above.
All submissions shall be annotated by the keywords/phrases freely chosen by the authors. At least three and at most five key phrases have to be provided. All submissions must comply with the Guidelines for Springer Computer Science Conference authors as explained in the MS-AMLV 2021 formatting instructions page. Submissions must be made in PDF at the EasyChair page. Page limit: not less than 10 and not more than 12 Springer LNCS pages.
It is required that the first author of any paper submitted for the Symposium is either a student at M.Sci or Ph.D. level or a young researcher from the industry who is working towards obtaining a Ph.D. The supervisor or scientific advisor may be involved as the last author of submission if deemed appropriate. Other authors may be listed only if they: (i) provide valuable inputs to the presented Ph.D. project; and (ii) are external to the organization where the first author comes from. The organizers reserve the right to reject, without a review, a submission that does not comply with these authorship constraints.
Evaluation and Publication
Every submission will be evaluated by at least three members of the International Program Committee composed of the experts in the fields of interest for the Symposium. The evaluation will focus on:
- technical correctness, rigor, and maturity,
- and the potential impact of the planned or early results in a short to mid-term perspective.
Accepted papers will be published online, in the proceedings volume with ISBN, shortly after the Symposium. More details on the evaluation process and milestones are given in the MS-AMLV 2021 Process and Quality page.
Accepted papers must be presented at the Symposium session by its student author, who commits to register and attend the conference. The Symposium Chairs reserve the right to exclude from the proceedings the papers that have not been presented.

How to Get to Lviv and UCU
Lviv is a major cultural and touristic venue in the very West of Ukraine, having tight historical links to the neighboring European countries. The city is easily reachable by air with its direct connections to several major European destinations, including Kyiv. Those who prefer not to fly may feel comfortable using a railway or bus connection from Europe through Poland, Slovakia, or Hungary.
